Seperation of Church and State

I understand that our founding fathers came to America on a pilgrimage of some sort. Be it financial, political, or religious freedom. I also understand that those same fathers wrote in our constitution something about the separation of church and state. I agree.

I'm not bashing the idea of religious conviction because I have my own. But I'm just not sure how much it should be in our government. A Christian leader? Fine. But I am also fine with any other leader, as long as their beliefs aren't pushed upon me. Besides, when did mankind get the idea that the government, or any authority for that matter, should be teaching our children what to believe anyway?

I mean... really. Do you really want him teaching your kids how to follow Christ? I'm not in anyway insulting the intelligence of our president. But, I know for sure, that I do not want my kids to learn about a Christ following lifestyle from him. I don't know that I believe so.  I don't think he's a great president, and I don't think I would want my kids learning anything from him.

I think this is a great symbol of America. When I look at her I think free speech, free enterprise, and to me most importantly, Freedom of Religion. What do you or your kids think of when they look at her? Is that up for me to decide? No. Should I get upset when/if I don't agree with what you see when you see our lady peace? I don't think so. But, it's a free standing statue, erected to represent something. What you may ask. That's for you to decide.

I fully understand that these aren't merely religious beliefs, but also a good foundation to live any life. But at a court house or any government building? I don't know. If that's the case, then why stop there? There has to be a line. If we have the Ten Commandments, who's to say eventually we won't have a National Church?? A little outlandish I know but, if you don't draw a line, anything could happen.

Should the schools have prayer? I haven't ever really thought about it. Now that I am, I don't think they should. I don't think that the government setting aside a time for kids to forcefully speak to God is such a greatidea.  I'm not saying every kid would feel "forced",
but what about the few?

The point I am trying to make is not to bash your beliefs, or sway your political views. I fully believe our children should be raised in an environment that unceasingly shows the grace of God. I also believe that if they are, they will grow up to do the same. Do I think it's the governments job? No. Do I think the government should have anything to do with it? No.

Then who? I'll tell you.. Better yet. I'll let someone else tell you.
